We must think about it. We must think. I saw this today and was inspired:

I copied it down from the inside jacket of Will Durants volume The Life Of Greece:

""The persistent effort to subordinate Fancy to Reason is the dominate quality of the Greek mind.

Therefore Greek literature is modern, or rather contemporary, we find it hard to understand Dante or Milton, but Euripides and Thucydides are kin to us mentally and belong to our ages.

This is because, though myths may differ, reason remains the same and the life of reason makes brothers of its lovers in all times and everywhere.""

This is all gobbley gook so you won't feel guilty doing nothing. AMIRITE?

Koan, > I guess you saw my post that the volume of older crucial sea ice in the arctic shrunk by 57% from 2004 to 2008. This ice will not be replaced and is a very dangerous sign.

I've seen reports of global temperatures falling by a few degrees over the past decade. Some of the "experts" are claiming that this is only temporary and that global warming will resume its course.

Who really knows for sure how we are affecting the environment and how we can minimize our "footprint" on it? Six billion humans on this planet are going to have an impact on it, there's no doubt about that. But most the stuff we try to do in the name of reversing global warming is either silly or has tons of unintended consequences.

For example, the rising demand for biofuels is causing Brazil to cultivate millions of acres of land. Unfortunately they're destroying rainforest in the process, which is counterintuitive from an environmental perspective, but hey, Brazillians need to make money, do they not?

As for hydro power, I'll never forget back in 2000 when Al Gore was leaning toward breaching hydroelectric dams in the Pacific Northwest because they were killing salmon. Well geez, up until then I thought hydro power was 100% clean. Now what, we have to build windmills and solar panels to compensate?

There's just too much craziness when it comes to environmentalism. No matter what we do, we're just going to mess up the environment one way or another. Not that we shouldn't try to clean up after ourselves, but to turn this minimalization into an obsession is counterproductive.
