What's distressing is when the school sends home a paper that describes a program or an upcoming activity and I find either I can't understand what they writer was trying to convey or essential information (time, date, place, for example) is omitted.

I am very involved in my son's school. I volunteer a lot and actually give special presentations on geology and energy (it is much more than coal now). Most of the teachers at our school are actually very good. But they are almost all ultra-liberal. It really does worry me that the political crap is going to seep in.

One thing you can tell right away though is which kids have parents who give a damn about their education. And so many of the kids getting bused in never have their homework done. This is a culture thing, not a race thing. The black kids who live in the neighborhood are right at the top of the class with everyone else.
