In the world of academia, I think it's just like the real world, you get some bright gifted people and a distribution of those who are not quite so bright.

In business, I met good number of Phd's and even professors who I could only describe as "thick as two short planks". Just one of those things. The money and the prestige attracts all sorts I suppose.

However, my breath is taken away when I read this site...

As Professor Seitz states, in his Petition Project letter which speaks of this impending threat to all humanity, "It is especially important for America to hear from its citizens who have the training necessary to evaluate the relevant data and offer sound advice."

and this is supposed to be a political document to try any stop Al Gore and the socialists taking over the world with thier agenda on global warming?

- a frigging exhort by Dr "smoking tobacco is good for" Seitz to listen the guys with the relevant training to give advice ?????????

I think the global warming skeptics may as well hand over the keys of the planet Earth to AL GORE and the SOCIALISTS (including the NZ left winger government) right now. They deserve to lose for putting up such a pathetic loser document.

just in in-tray, all speculations and rumors

Just looked at the charts.

It appears that by the end of 2011, we could well see a ratio of 5:1 on Gold vs. S&P 500.

Meaning, that if the S&P remains at 1,000, gold would be at $5,000

Of course, it could also mean that if the S&P tanks to 400, gold would "only" be at $2,000! <g>

Rumors that the Canadian International School is getting ready to shut down due to swine flu.

A number of kids appear to have diagnosed with the flu.

A couple of other schools in Hong Kong shut down last week.

Heard a rumor that some government body in the US estimates that as many as 40% of the US population could come down with the flu by year end, meaning that there could be some significant disruptions in the economy on a short-term basis.....
