The chance of a large tsunami in the Pacific or Atlantic oceans over the next 100 years is high and the catastrophic consequences so enormous that worrying about 40cm of sea level rise due to global warming is silly. We can quite easily do a lot about CO2 emissions. The point is, we don't need to and stopping them is likely to be counter productive. We can: ..... liquefy CO2 from coal-fired power stations and pipe it under the oceans ..... change vehicle fleets to electric ..... automate them ..... build nuclear power stations ..... migrate to moderate climates ..... insulate ourselves and buildings ..... use cellulose as fuel ..... use cyberspace instead of terrestrial efforts ..... cut human numbers from 6 billion to 1 billion [people are choosing that it seems - see Japan, Germany, Italy, Russia, China, and other places] ..... build vacuum tubes for high speed terrestrial transport instead of aviation - little vehicles could fly in them, using maglev control ..... photovoltaics everywhere ..... superconductors too [that might be a hard one] ..... domesticate fusion processes It wouldn't even be all that expensive to do that.
