Unfortunately, political decisions are not based on science other than sometimes using science as a fig leaf. <what we do about the environment is a political decision. I would hope that this decision would be based on the best science available. >Political decisions are based on the benefits of the decisions going to those in power and their supporters. That's the universal rule of politics. Some politicians claim to act for everybody, which is just a way to widen their support base.

If they can find science to support their political decisions that's all to the good. Normally, they can find scientists who will provide the cover they require for what they want to do.

The science of eugenics gave a sound basis for ridding Europe of undesirable genes [such as gypsies, Jews, and anyone else who was out of favour].

If they can't find scientific rationale, they make the decisions anyway "for the good of all".

The Greenhouse Effect industry is huge and growing. There are fortunes to be made by kleptocrats capping and trading. Goldman Sachs has just come through the world record financial collapse with profits burgeoning with help from their political mates, and now they will make out like bandits on the huge CO2 market. There's one born every minute = Joe6Pack will pay yet again.
