Thursday October 30 8:15 AM EST Company Press Release AT&T Announces Agreement With McLeodUSA to Provide Access to AT&T Business Customers in 30 Cities NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1997--AT&T today announced an agreement with McLeodUSA that allows businesses in 30 cities to connect directly with AT&T's long-distance network over McLeodUSA facilities as an alternative to access provided by incumbent local phone companies. The agreement will help AT&T reduce access fees it pays to incumbent local phone companies for customers to connect to the AT&T long-distance network. ''Once again, we're demonstrating that AT&T will use the most economical and high-quality ways to provide access to our customers,'' said Frank Ianna, AT&T's executive vice president of network and computing services. ''This agreement lets us maximize the value of AT&T service to our customers while we minimize cost.'' Steve Gray, McLeodUSA's president and chief operating officer, said: ''This agreement allows McLeodUSA to provide dedicated access service for AT&T in second- and third-tier cities. This will further competition for dedicated access service in these cities and provide AT&T customers with an excellent access alternative.'' The agreement covers dedicated access service for businesses in Aurora, Bloomington, Bolingbrook, Champaign, Decatur, Elgin, Moline, Orland Park, Peoria, Rockford, Rock Island and Springfield, Ill.; Bettendorf, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Mason City, Sioux City and Waterloo, Iowa; Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Rochester and St. Cloud, Minn.; Bismarck, Fargo, and Grand Forks, N.D.; and Rapid City and Sioux Falls, S.D. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. It does not involve an equity investment from AT&T. To date, AT&T has announced various agreements with seven alternative access providers allowing businesses in 130 cities to connect with AT&T's network as an alternative to access provided by incumbent local phone companies.
