Does NZ have a history of Tsunamis like Japan? The parts of the NZ telly show I saw seemed to depict a coast line that rose rather abruptly. Of course it probably depends on where one is.

A fast rising sea would be a very significant problem for coastal cities in the states. We have so many of them and often the land around them is not high (NY, Norfolk, Charleston, Miami, LA.) NY City's subway system floods now after a good rain. We're concerned.

Sorry to hear about the crime rate. Had not heard that before (of course NZ is not going to go out of its way to publicize this.) What seems to be the cause. Poverty? Ethnic tensions?
People getting drunk on Saturday Nite? (Do people go to pubs in NZ and sing songs?)
