"The bill has come due" Correct. Now what? We have squandered any cushion we might have had over the past decade or so. We could do as you advocate and pull a Hoover and go into economic collapse, dragging the rest of the world with us. Or we could try to get out of this mess. I dunno. Tough choice there... But, you could be right. We could be only postponing the inevitable. But we don't know that. We do know that doing nothing means a collapse.
