Well, in all fairness to Etrade...the system today has been running fine for me since market open to 9 PST. The markets do have heavy volume this morning also, but not the volume of the past 3 days. Let's hope that there have been actions taken to upgrade the system, and that it doesn't take another crisis to prompt changes. I have applications for both Datek and Waterhouse, and will evaluate and post my reactions should these accounts be opened in the near future..
