this wasn't supposed to happen until the late 2020's....i had read not long ago that due to job losses and the obama election, there was a pretty strong uptick in retirees choosing early retirement (age 62 ).....if so, could those 2 factors alone explain the much earlier than anticipated SS insolvency?

A lot of people who didn't really want to retire have lost their jobs. Many are eligible for SS and are taking it. I personally know 3 who did it this summer for exactly this reason. I suspect the SSTF and Congress haven't counted on this trend.

The economy is swirling down the toilet and Congress is arguing over how to waste an additional trillion dollars they plan to borrow in our names.
