My use of the term "equal access" was not made with any degree of rigorousness. I only used it to accentuate a point of view that is different than that held for most on this thread.

I agree that people who can afford it should be able to spend as much as they want to get the best health care possible. I also don't think that all others should get the same level of care. But there is a level of care that all citizens should have access to. I am not particularly an advocate for poor people (although I should really think that through a little more carefully). I think we need to provide access to basic health care for everyone provided we can pay for it. It is for the greater good of all our citizens. It is a principle, a belief, that values and shows respect for all human life equally.
