I suspect that America is one of the most heavily armed countries on the individual level that ever existed. Perhaps the number of guns per capita is higher in American than in any other nation... but many gun owners here own multiple guns ... I suspect that the percentage of people who own guns is actually higher in Switzerland than here, since military service is compulsory for males, and following military service gun ownership is nearly universal (or so I understand).
