Of course we all know that the real figure is 5 million Americans who can't get insurance, but you would be unlikely to ever discuss the core of the issue because it does not sound alarming to the uninformed.

I don't know what the real number is but it certainly isn't the 47 million that has been bandied about by government takeover proponents.

Personally, I don't distinguish too much between illegals and others, because the reality is that those illegals are going to continue to be part of the cost structure, no matter what. If they present at an county hospital ER and they've got a serious problem, they're going to get treated.

This is why we have to be exceptionally careful about tinkering with this system. It works, and works remarkably well.

If these Democrats ram through sweeping legislation we are very likely going to see a WORSENING of the overall health care system in the US. That's the problem. The system needs improvement but sweeping changes will likely destroy the delicate balance between supply and demand.

In addition to the damage to the health care system, if they attempt to use the "reconciliation" process to get health care legislation, there is going to be long-term damage to the legislative process.
