that's a dated article....

a lot of financial destruction has happened since 2008

but do note where it says :

"if you can AFFORD to wait"

i daresay the majority of people opting for early SS are doing so because they a)lost their jobs and cannot AFFORD not to and b) they are fearful of being pushed further along (they can do the math) the timeline of eligibility (rather take 75% of *something* than 100% of nothing)

add to this double digit unemployment and even greater underemployment meaning less fica taxes going in, that would explain the unusually big deficit last month, previous *assumptions* about SS are highly suspect
