I don't ignore them, they simply weren't consequential.

The Reagan tax increases come NOWHERE CLOSE to offsetting the consequences of his two big cuts -- ERTA and TRA86. At least not during the period of economic expansion (the SS rate hikes continue to haunt us to this date, but it had to be done to keep SS afloat).

It is not a coincidence that substantial tax cuts are always followed by a period of economic growth (and increased tax collections as well), and substantial tax increases are always followed by an economic downturn. It never fails.
