I wasn't saying that I think the tax credit for insurance/fine for not buying it idea was the best idea. I was just trying to point out that it isn't just about making things worse for people who can't afford insurance by fining them if they don't buy it. It's a fine for not using a tax credit you have been given (cash up front) for its intended purpose.

There's a lot of misunderstanding of this tax credit/fine idea, even on this thread. I don't think it has been explained well.

I would rather see universal Medicare, personally, with private insurance companies selling add-on plans if they wish.

I agree about illegal aliens. You can't turn a sick child away from the hospital just because their parents don't have a green card.
