Almost the same thing has happened to me twice recently. I was redirected to some website that immediately started a scan of my computer. I did an immediate update and scan with Malwarebytes and it found a rogue trojan program and a Hijack registry entry and quarantined it. I guess I should use realtime protection to avoid such things as redirects but since I keep up to date images I am not as careful as I should be.
