What a ridiculous series of non sequiturs from a NYT gasbag. Its the left/Democratic party and their support of an all encompassing welfare state and unionized labor that makes the USA globally uncompetitive. Russia and China are more capitalist that we are. The world's failing economies (see Central America/ South America/Europe) are run by progressives (i.e. statists, communists, social democrats, labor)
