Yes, both were wrong & it will be another distraction from the issues. But with the left anymore anything can be twisted into a distraction to deflect from their lies & misinformation.

So Far, September Feels a Lot Like August

By: Jim Geraghty
The Campaign Spot

It's fascinating to watch the focus on Congressman Joe Wilson this morning; apparently the Obama administration, Congressional Democrats, and their allies think calling the opposing side uncouth, rude, out of control and enraged will swing the public to their side in dramatic numbers. Because calling the town hall protesters "un-American", "terrorist", "Timothy McVeigh", "teabaggers" and "the KKK" did so much for the president's poll numbers last month.

On Wilson

By: Jonah Goldberg
The Corner

I'm getting lots and lots of e-mail objecting to my disapproval of Wilson. The usual "Squish!" "He spoke the truth!" and "We in the heartland don't care!" stuff. Sorry, but I'm unpersuaded. I'm not being dismissive; I understand where folks are coming from and I share much of the frustration. Moreover, I already think the story has been wildly overplayed, particularly from folks who 20 seconds ago were saying that years of offensive statements and actions by Van Jones were meaningless, but two syllables from Wilson are some massive indictment of the GOP.

But look, as a strictly political matter, Wilson's outburst wasn't helpful. It doesn't help persuade people who aren't already sympatico with Wilson's point of view.
Winning over moderates, independents, conservative Democrats et al is an important priority for Obama's opponents. Moreover, as a simple matter of right and wrong, or civility, it was uncalled for. Decorum at such events is simply a matter of good manners. Wrong on the merits plus wrong on the politics equals a bad idea by my math. Whether he was accurate when he shouted "You lie!" or not isn't the issue. There are times to say the president isn't telling the truth -- and he wasn't quite often last night -- but that wasn't one of them.

"They are both wrong. It should not have happened. It provides a distraction from real issues that the Dems can use to their advantage....."

Breech of decorum, yes. Understandable that Wilson would feel the urge to express his displeasure given the lines leading up to it, yes. Should he have simply booed like Dems did to Bush (and Repubs did to Clinton, etc.)? Yeah, but the left-blogosphere would have reacted the same way. Who does it hurt more? Well, that's more complicated.

My feeling is that the left blathering on about how big an a-hole Wilson is (and extrapolating from that to all Repubs), rather than on the substance of the speech and how great a job they think Barry did, may be an act of defensiveness. They are fast losing public support and their answer, as usual, is to demonize critics, call them liars, paint them as stupid hicks, and try to raise fear among voters about what might happen if their plan doesn't prevail. And it has to prevail yesterday. They want to talk about anything but the actual issues. If they talk issues, they lose.

ETA: Of course, this strategy has worked magic so far. For opponents.
