*** ALERT *** FBN is "real"!!!

This is not a joke. If it were a joke, we certainly wouldn't tell it was not a joke.

Actually, the joke is on CEO TEDennis who agreed to part with so many of FBN's shares. After the IPO, rather than being a billionaire, poor TED will only be a multi-millionaire. Bummer.

OK, enough with the suspense... check this out:

Here's a list of our "competition":

You know the irony of all this is, because TED got paid five bucks for doing Y2K work last September, we have outearned Z*TL and C*GI combined!

In case you are wondering who wrote the Mitre stuff... they did. To refresh your memory, here is what they wrote:

Is a "silver-bullet" solution possible, even desirable? How are our colleagues going about solving the problem? What vendors are out there and what are their strengths and weaknesses? If you need help sorting out the claims of Y2K vendors, we have the staff and methodology to assist in evaluating your alternatives. We hope our "no-strings-attached" approach will make companies be more likely to get educated, rather than procrastinate out of fear or ignorance.

We at FBN (Fly By Night Associates) are serious investors in the Y2K sector as well as experienced computer professionals. Our mission is simply to serve as a catalyst in getting the ball rolling on the process -- to enable companies to cut through the clutter. We offer the ability to exchange valuable and pertinent information with up-to-date professionals who are very current on Y2K tools and techniques. FBN is located in cyberspace on the Silicon Investor financial website at: Subject 17449.

I especially like the part about "up-to-date professionals who are very current". Sheesh. Anyway, for comparison, here is what I originally wrote:

Will the "Millenium Bug" be solved by a 14 year old boy from New Zealand? Is a "silver-bullet" solution possible, even desirable? How are my colleagues going about solving the problem? What vendors are out there and what are their strengths and weaknesses?

We at FBN (Fly By Night Associates) refer to such questions as "Step 0" of the process. As computer professionals, we consider ourselves educators, not salesmen, and, as such, our mission is simply to serve as a catalyst in getting the ball rolling on the process-- to enable companies to cut through the clutter. We hope our "no-strings-attached" approach will make companies more likely to get educated, rather than procrastinate out of fear or ignorance.

Oh well.
