And since the markets have done squat over the past decade unless your managers are exceptional (most aren't), investment returns for many have been poor. The Republicans have sold this idea (with obvious corporate support) and as a result defined benefit pension plans have become passe for the most part, and 401k's are now in vogue. Well guess what, many of them have become 201k's, and many large corporations are now dropping or 'suspending' their match funds because of 'economic conditions'... Bottom line, J6P screwed again...
