High technology worked fine in the case cited.
The 2 missiles shot down the aircraft - in this case a civilian airliner.
So you really can rely on the technology.

The real question is whether this technological power should be placed in the hands of idiots.
The military investigation of what happened in the control room of that Aegis-equipped cruiser proves you should not give matches to children.
