I'd figure let young people, in their 50's and below, keep working and keep turning the wheels....

IMO that's the key reason why we should limit federal transfer payments to the hopelessly poor. This is Socialism 101: it's too easy for good people to rationalize putting their feet up and letting others carry the load when that becomes a legal and acceptable societal norm, so easy that soon a critical mass is doing just that, killing off the goose that's been laying the golden egg in the process. Downward spiral.

<<But.... someone is still paying for your insurance, even though you're retired (congrats, btw).>>

Thanks for congrats.
After i retired i had several serious bouts of illness costing probably 10's of thousands of dollars.

Financially i was whole at the end, presented health card on the way in, and no bill on the way out and no worries about buying insurance or whether i will be dropped or denied.

As i have said before, this is not free.

The bills are paid by my contribution to federal taxes, and up to $900.00 per year in the province of Ontario depending on how much you have earned in the year.

Also i pay off of property taxes, to pay for portion of cost of new hospital.Taxes from federal, provincial, also pay towards it.

All health care in Canada encourages philanthropy, bequest, gift of life insurance on death, gift of stock etc and a tax deduction is given.

Stress free.<g>And no dodge for those that want to ride for free unless they cheat on their taxes.
