======================================================================
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1997--

Healthcare Leader Receives Compaq Help in Managing Supply Chains

Demonstrating Compaq's unsurpassed quality and service to the
healthcare industry, Compaq today announced in North America that it
was awarded the IT Supplier of the Year by Kaiser Permanente, one of
the nation's largest healthcare organizations. Compaq was named the
leading supplier of information technology and was recognized for its
outstanding contribution to Kaiser Permanente's business and
communication infrastructure. Kaiser Permanente relies on Compaq's
high-performance servers, desktops and workstations to effectively run
its mission-critical business.
"Compaq is delighted to receive the IT Supplier of the Year Award
in recognition for its top-notch performance," said James T. Schraith,
Vice President & General Manager, North America, Compaq. "The award
further signifies our commitment to provide the highest quality
products and services not only to Kaiser Permanente but also to the
entire healthcare industry."
Kaiser Permanente's selections for IT Supplier of the Year were
based on a Supplier Performance Rating System that quantitatively
evaluated price, service and responsiveness, product availability,
current and future technical resources, quality, and knowledge of
Kaiser Permanente. A team from Kaiser Permanente's National Purchasing
Organization evaluated the candidates, carefully weighting supplier
performance in each category. Finalists were presented for
consideration and approval by Kaiser Permanente oversight
organizations, including the National Product Council, National
Material Leadership Team, and Kaiser Permanente-IT.
"Compaq understands the significance of continuously improving
quality, service and cost," said Chuck Noland, Director of Operations,
National Purchasing Organization, Kaiser Permanente. "As IT Supplier
of the Year, Compaq is helping Kaiser Permanente achieve its vision of
managing the entire supply chain to be as efficient and productive as
possible."
