The idea (which Greg holds) that humanity cannot have a moral system unless it is decreed by an infinite power is so irrational that it truly beggars belief. Although "right action" is relative to culture and community and various other factors--nevertheless...all societies, tribes, families and individuals have lived by some sort of "moral" standard whether through thoughtful reason...or simply through an unconscious self interest in survival, social acceptance and belonging--a general happiness.

The ten commandments are common to most primitive cultures in general--just as they are somewhat vulgar to a more civilized and rational era. Killing people for gathering sticks for cooking or staying warm on a Sunday is a moral precept???

And if the God of the Israelites is Absolute, then which version of his "moral" commands (love me (love my spokespeople) fear me (fear my spokespeople) obey me (obey my spokespeople) don't make any "graven images" (unless you are my Church (the Catholic) (then you can get my secret moral overrides)--which version I say of these primitive utterances is the moral version and which version is from Old Scratch??

Why is there no commandment about abortion but God commands them not to boil a goat in its mothers milk? Boil the baby goat, yes--but don't do it like a pagan! A great universal "moral" code that we must discuss in Sunday School and continue to write stupid and apparently endless Exegesis upon? Endless posturing and preening over tribal values entirely inappropriate to a civilized, scientific, and technological culture?

Don't boil a baby goat in its mothers milk?! Give me a break, DAD. What a hugely relevant "moral" issue! What if I roast it in the ground beside my pet pig? Will that be allowed?? Why nothing about painting graffiti under bridges?? Why nothing about getting too close to heaven in a roller coaster or ferris wheel? Why nothing about dipping frog legs in chocolate?? Why nothing about annoying God (and stressed out people) with noisy skateboarding?? Just don't scratch your ass on a Sunday (or Saturday, or whatever) and watch how you cook that daily staple (so especially popular throughout Canada and the Vatican)--the baby goat.

And of course the great moral commandment which nobody ever keeps: Every firstling male (cattle or Ox) must be sacrificed to Mr. Jealousy (obviously another "moral" attribute!).
