good choices - nice lifestyle.

i ended up here on silicon investor thinking i could make easy money during the dot.com era. alas, i came in late and very naive and ten years later am about where i started, and consider myself lucky!

yes, i think there are a few of us with that
experience.

Hi Dan, A lot of us think of it as "Living within our means"...

Something that has been lost on the younger generations due to the ease of available credit...

Now that credit is an issue alot of folks are rethinking their situations...

Statistics show many young family's are having to move back in with their parents (if possible)...

There are many that live relatively simple but fulfilling lives, the way you described, and some of them are even rich. Unfortunately, in America, they are a distinct minority. Ironically, America is full of places with sufficient infrastructure and civilisation so that one can have a very inexpensive lifestyle, that's also rich in experiences and pleasures.

Many of the most expensive aspects of American lifestyles, from eating out or "going out" to feel entertained, to maintaining large houses and big late model cars, to letting their health care be dictated by a rapacious insurance/medical complex, actually reduce quality of life, while at the same time greatly inflating GDP.
