Meanwhile back at the ranch: The push for the repeat of the 1930s continues......Trade wars are going to heat up.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 (AP) - (Kyodo)—U.S. President Barack Obama decided Friday to impose a tariff on rapidly increasing imports of tires from China, the first such move to be taken by his administration against the country.
The tariff, which will take effect Sept. 26 to safeguard U.S. manufacturers, will amount to 35 percent the first year, 30 percent the next year and 25 percent the third year.

The decision came after the U.S. International Trade Commission, a federal trade panel, sought in July levies of up to 55 percent, saying U.S. tire makers were being materially injured by imported China-made tires.

China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement Saturday, saying the U.S. decision not only violates World Trade Organization rules but also constitutes an act of trade protectionism that contradicts its promise at an international financial summit to promote free trade.

According to the United Steelworkers union, a U.S. body that filed a complaint about the matter, imports of tires from China tripled between 2004 and 2008.
