From what I read in local papers, an awful lot of possession arrests happen cause someone got stopped with it in their car, have it on them when they get caught shoplifting, etc etc. People aren't breaking down doors most places, especially over marijuana. A lot of users are just stupid.

How is the current approach working out?

What is the moral basis for ruining hundreds of thousands of lives every year over this?

Nit picking questionable statistics is a way of avoiding these questions. And no one ever claimed legalization would solve the drug problem, that's a straw man. In fact these articles typically disavow that claim prominently.

I am making this reply to you rather than Brumar. I like Brumar, I probably recommend more of his posts than any except yourself and Nadine. Hi Brumar. We've had this conversation more than once and I really don't want to have it again. I know, I know, I kind of started it.

I had a longer post in mind, backing out arrests for possession only to make the stats comparable, pointing out that pot does not by it's nature foster aggressive anti-social behavior (unlike alcohol), etc, etc, etc, but it's all been said before by better writers than me.
