Ignore the blank post before this, couldn't figure out how to retract an earlier post in it's entirety.

Loved your thoughts, thanks! Let's hope the world shapes up this way.

Funny you should mention PIXR. Apple seems to be a linchpin of speculation on some of the other threads I read. Some of the PIXR folks and SGI folks seem concerned by the seemingly implausible prospect of merger/takeover attempts by Apple. Only the Whole Foods thread seems clear of this stuff.(g)

Where's a good source for info on Knowledge Universe? The recent announcements seems to have slipped under my radar.

Thanks,

Dirk

David, It is far from certain if the NCs will survive, however fast networks will allow for some penetration even if Wingate PCs get dirt cheaper?
Will any AAPL product be low enough in cost to compete with the Wingates? I think not, so Oracle must make it sufficiently niche capable that it will withstand the assault by the wingates.
I call them Wingates because so many people make the CPUs now that Intel is going to shrink.

<I used to think that NC's had their uses, but I would alwasy want "personal" computer. But now, the more I think about NC's and the ability of Rhapsody to login to your own personal "Finder" from any NC, the more I believe that I would want to have this kind of system from home/offices/travelling. It clearly is the way for the future for most users.>

This is really the crux of the issue, isn't it? If someone's marketing branch (AAPL, ORCL, KU?) can succeed in convincing people -- and provide them with some compelling product -- that the NC is the way to go, Apple could be in on the ground floor of a mighty big movement. Whether it continues to exist as "Apple" is another matter. Just as long as I can still have access to the Mac OS in some form or another, and as long as my shares don't go "bye bye," I'll be happy.

You make some good points, David.

Good luck to us all.

Mark
