No that wouldn't make sense to split it up since the media and hardware devices are synergistic and integrated.

Very synergistic.

You can get iTunes on other computers anyway.

>>Exactly why the Mac division is languishing.

Time for a spin off in wholly owned subsidiary with own CEO and management team to focus on that market.<<

Sinclap -

Languishing? Are you serious?

Apple sold 2.6 million Macs during the last reported quarter, which as we all know was a bad time in the macro economy. It was their second best quarter for Mac sales ever, and their best June quarter.

Every other computer maker had a lousy quarter, comparatively.

The current lineup of Macs is the best Apple has ever offered. The Mac Pros are astonishingly fast. The MacBook Pros are the best designed and best built notebook computers ever. That's not what I'd call languishing.

I understand that for your particular needs, PCs look better. You want to tinker with the box, swap video cards out a lot, and so forth. Apple isn't catering to you, so you're looking elsewhere. That's fine. When you say that you think Apple should pay more attention to buyers like you and offer more of what you want, you're expressing your own opinion, which is as valid as any other opinion.

But to say that the Mac business is in trouble is to ignore the objective evidence.
