When Garrett Van Wagoner's mostly small-cap funds stumbled in their second year, he was tempted to jump into the swelling big-cap market. Instead, he's sticking to his guns, shooting for a turnaround with companies like Citrix and Avant! And I actually covered Avant! so that I could short Citrix! I must have "idiot" written all over me. I think Avant! is probably a more compelling long-term short than Citrix, because of the legal problems Avant! is facing. I had hoped to make some short-term money on Citrix, but missed my chance to cover for big bucks. I hope I'll be able to cover and find shares of Avant! to short in the near future. I also think CDRD is a compelling short-term and long-term short.
