Mlps. Madharry, before today, I would say my best guess is the etf of TYN. No mess, no fuss. Get the diversity. (Some of the tax benefits might not be had though. I don't know.)

College fund is tax-sheltered? Not sure if an mlp etf or specific mlp's would be be better or appropriate.

Looking at TYN today I see expenses are 2.94%. I've totally missed that. I don't understand how since I keep reviewing TYN. Either the expenses have recently gone up or I wasn't careful enough. 2.9% is a big hit. Current distribution annualized is .37x4/18/5 = 8%.

I'm sort of cash rich at this point. More cash in more accounts than I've had in years. To deploy some cash in my ira in a way that I hope doesn't subject me to too much portfolio volatility and that also might be a step up from money market or low bond yields, I still like TYN for me. I have a substantial position, and I'm adding more today.

Any of you guys have a specific mlp suggestion for Madharry, I'd be interested in reading of it too.
