You can almost hear the obfuscation: "The situation has changed as has the technology. We no longer need that type of system, it's outdated. The new technology will address any threat. Trust me, I know what I'm doing. Let me be clear about this, I'm privy to information that you or anyone else doesn't know about. I'm in the best position to decide what is best for us." Putin has been in league with the Iranians for years. You could present the scenario in the simplest terms to a kid in grade school and they would be able to parse out the consequences.
