It is obscure as to whether the fish gave its name to the Island or the Island gave its name to the fish. There are also Sardellas.

The Sardinians are actually croato-bosnian-basque/scandinavian-anatolian in race. A very isolated group. A group description is not possible but they could equate to a basque celtic germanic. They are not Italian or Greek, although they have been variously influenced by phoenicians, greeks, romans, carthaginians, et al.

The island has been inhabited for 8.5 million years.

It is a blue zone.

Average life expectancy is 81.1 years (84.5 for women and 77.7 for men). Sardinia shares with the Japanese island of Okinawa the highest rate of centenarians in the world (22 centenarians/100,000 inhabitants).
