Paul: I would appreciate your comments about a news item I saw in a recent BusinessWeek discussing how laptop designers/manufacturers were having trouble with Deschutes-based model development because the chips were running too hot and using too much power. Please let me know your thoughts and what you know or have heard on the topic.

Your point regarding IBM as a computer company is taken, still I'm not sure it would be more than a tertiary factor if Apple & IBM could put together a 1.1 Ghz platform running Windows, Mac and Unix programs and a little media hype got behind it.

Mainstream software wasn't ever available to run on the Alpha and PA-RISC chips and that's what makes this case so intriguing if, a big if, Apple does what they say they will do. In any case, there are alot of rumours regarding Apple, Rhapsody and the PowerPC platform. I think 98 may be a year of surprises on the high end and I was curious to know if you were interested in that side of the business.
