A few research nuggets . . .

* In February 1996, the NASD reported that it was partnering with Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc. to "test, train, and certify the nation's 512,449 registered brokers" in up to 280 different centers in all 50 States and territories. Because of new NASD continuing education regulations put in place in 1995, the number of such tested brokers was expected to be 336,590 in 1996 -- up 30% from the previous year. Brokers must now have continuing education and be tested in their second, fifth and tenth years in the business. [I infer from this that the 1996 figure may be somewhat higher than immediately succeeding years, but you can see the size of the deal.]

* According to an article published in legal journals in June 1996, IDX at the time had finger imaging work stations installed in 100 law enforcement agencies over 29 states.

* Going way back to 1992, IDX took over ANADAC by offering 15% of IDX stock. At the time IDX had revenues of $1.1 million; ANADAC, $17.3 million. The IDX stock used had a value of about $5 million. I guess it's turned out OK.
