We are at a point where the public option is to be traded with no further increase in the deficit. This can be done by either raising taxes, which I believe Obama is not willing to do. Or Obama needs to assure just a few Republicans that he will not approve any additional future spending. Obama can do so by cutting Defense expenditure, bringing the troops home from Iraq and even Afghanistan, cutting down on tax breaks to those companies who have operations overseas etc. These are not liberal or conservative ideas. These are the things he ran on.

It is time for Obama to spell out the details on how he is going to achieve those. With a little effort in this direction, he can easily win the support of three Republican senators Collins, Snowe and Voinovich.

And this is not a Republican or Democratic issue. This is a American issue.
