BC, the utility of war is no longer a rational factor.

we simply can't afford war any more.

my view is the oligarchs own the military industrial complex and use it as a way to milk monetize more tax receipts, but that's just me.

Just out of curiosity, is SOB's board ultra-left or ultra-right? I really couldn't tell, it just seemed ultra-looney to me. Glenn Beck is popular there, and he is on Fox, which brings a whiff of fascism.

"Neither view will tolerate any rational discussion of stopping useless(IMO) war."

Actually, Lindys thread is pretty ambivalent about Afghanistan, maybe even leaning against it. Certainly against a war where the ROE limits our troops to being pop up targets, and in which neither side wants us there. Maybe Bill was just having a bad day.

Starting with Vietnam we go to war without any intention of winning. Aside from the morality of any particular war or war in general, I find the idea of going to war to tie strange. And it ends up perpetuating the situation, constantly being at war, valiantly fighting to a draw. Also desensitizes. Used to be a big deal, as it should be. Now it's "What's that noise over there? Oh, that's just the war. Let's go shopping." Reminds me of some an old Star Trek plot.

And yes, civil discourse seems to be out of style on both sides.
