Shalom,

Thanks and I hope and pray that your day is going well, in the Lord.

Re: Israel. I agree and disagree with you I think (and I'm pretty sure that I'm not schizophrenic, too ;-).
I will study some more.

How do you view the passages that at least seem to point to a figurative Israel. I'll paraphrase:

"They are not all Israel who are descended from Israel." You could point to the Nation includes people not descendant from Jacob, but in the context it seems to be different, right? I'll find the scripture.

Romans:

9:6It is not as though God's word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.
7Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac
that your offspring will be reckoned." [2]
8In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise
who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.

Why msut the name Israel be literally interpreted to mean Jacob's descendants, especially in light of this passage. The term Jew is also used figuratively:

1:29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by
the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.

Could I get your comments or ideas on one more verse -- one I think you posted.

Matt 23:37-38
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them
which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together,
even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

What does 38 mean to you?

Desolate -- devoid of inhabitants and visitors; DESERTED

sure seems like strong language. What is Jersualem's house -- not just a set of buildings, is it?
