William, just curious--do you have a guess on how "steep" this potential drop might be? Oh, Annette, if only I knew. If I did know that, then you should genuflect while posting to me, because I would have to be GOD to know that. I can list the factors that I think are important, but I can't quantify it. It's entirely possible that the market might be up tomorrow; maybe the fund managers will have finished their selling today. I just doubt it. What I'm doing is this. I'll give you an example with Dell, although I'm doing this with a few other stocks as well. I've set limit orders to buy Dell Nov 100 calls at 1/2, Nov 95s at 1/2, and 90s at 1/2. That way if we have those quick drops and rebounds, I don't have to worry about getting a hold of my broker, or watching the market all day. Too bad that Nov expirations are so far off compared to other months (because Nov starts on Saturday). That's what makes the options more expensive than they would otherwise be at the end of the month.
