What happens if China decides to buy only a little or none of the IMF gold ?

I think that short term, price of gold drops and value of USD rises.... that would benefit China for now, with huge USD holdings. This might occur is there is a general fear of worldwide inflation going out of control.

Flip side is China may decide to buy much of it (the IMF gold), and many other central banks will push up the gold price. This might be done if there is a general fear of worldwide deflation.

We should look at this a financial theater, a VERY BIG SHOW, but still a show. As you said, a few days of chump change.
