So to the extent than anyone on either side thinks this is the case it's a big mistake AND a source of 'belief' in the wrong thing. You realize that passage was by Tania Lambrozo being interviewed in New Scientist. scientificamerican.com I'm sure that a lot of those "educated" people that reject evolution think it means rejecting god and assumes some kind of meaningless random creation. They do. And many of the folks telling them that are not fundamentalist Christians.
