In fact, as a way of restarting global trade talks, U.S. and Brazilian trade negotiators are quietly discussing the possibility of a grand bargain in which the United States would lower its agricultural subsidies—a key demand of developing countries—in exchange for a drastic reduction in Brazilian trade barriers for U.S. manufactured and capital goods.
