I had a curious time once with a deposit box at Wells Fargo in Arizona. Due to bank mergers, there were multiple boxes with the same numbers in the same building. Careless clerk took me to the wrong box, I told him so, he ignored me, and was surprised when my key didn't work. We went back up front and sure enough, he had given me the ledger for another box with the same number, which I had carelessly signed without close inspection.

So what if they need to drill box (for non-payment of annual fee, estate resolution, government search warrent, etc) and they carelessly drill the wrong box per above scenario?

Recommendation: keep a photographic record of contents at every visit, keep valuable contents insured, and have boxes at several different banks.
