From Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:

I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

That is an apt comparison, and a true description of the love Josh and Joyce shared.

I greatly admire true beauty like Joyce's, which is God-given and unaided by fancy makeup. She was a young woman sitting next to Josh in that picture and I'll never forget her eyes or her hair.

Here's a clip from the movie Spencer's Mountain, which starred Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. youtube.com
