"the discrediting of science and scientific research is a political victory."

Well said. It's obvious whose victory it is.

We have seen, once again, that money can pervert our basic institutions -- including what we thought was objective 'science'. The irony of it is that big money and their right wing droids have done so much to call into question the motives of legitimate scientists working in complex inter-disciplinary teams with decades-long research agenda's. The droids show up flush with cash and point at the real scientists and cast scorn upon them. It is yet another reflection of the American disease.
