Slider, I doubt that CG's post was meant as an attack on you or your post. I believe that he is simply pointing out the root cause of the problem with out being politically correct about it. Last I checked there was 29 recos. that tells me that people understand the root cause of the problem and are afraid to voice it. You and everyone here understand that a war with Iran is dangerous, costly and not in America's interest. On Tuesday Israel urged all delegates in the 192-member chamber to stay away when Ahmadinejad speaks. The Sad part is that powerful nations are complying, why? because Israel has them by the balls.

Now Israel is not looking for peace, it is looking to send America and Americans to war with Iran. The same way the Zionists persuaded America to get involved with two World Wars, almost nuking Egypt (Liberty's incident), war in Afghanistan and War in Iraq.

Slider you tell it like it is, so did Crimson. Kudos to both of you.

Ankle-bite # 1.
As one of the 20 ankle biters who recommended the post by CrimsonGhost, I am going to crawl out from under the poach and take up your challenge.

Of course, it would be easier to take up a challenge if I knew what it was.

To aim your sawed-off shotgun and launch a pattern of shot in the direction of Crimson NOT because of something that he said but because of something that he did not say, seems odd. Actually, it is worse than that. Crimson did not disagree with you, but rather, paid you a compliment. To respond with a tattooing of buckshot is, as I say, a bit odd, and certainly unfocused.

So, with the caveat that it is not clear in my mind what is going on in yours, I will respond to your challenge with two posts: ankle bite number one about Jews, and ankle bite number two, about gold.

I think CrimsonGhosts’ observation about the influence of Jewish billionaires is accurate.

In my humble opinion, the greatest short term problem that we face in this country is the Israeli lobby. It first captured American foreign policy, then dragged us into wars costing billions of dollars, the lives of thousands of our young people, and who knows how many lives in other countries. All for what purpose? Yes, right: support of Israel, a country which has turned itself into a moral cesspool, and is of no more value to us than any other little place out there in some dark corner of the world.

Remember Charles Freeman, the man Obama tried to appoint to a reasonably high level position in his administration? He was torpedoed by the Jews.

walt.foreignpolicy.com

An excellent overview of Jewish influence can be found here, a piece by Kevin MacDonald on neo-conservatism as a Jewish movement.
kevinmacdonald.net

Following are conclusions to the MacDonald piece. Not trivial stuff. Until we recapture America, and run our foreign policy in ways that reflect our interests, we will not be able to make headway on any other front.

CONCLUSIONS [TO THE MACDONALD PIECE]:

The current situation in the United States is really an awesome display of Jewish power and influence. People who are very strongly identified as Jews maintain close ties to Israeli politicians and military figures and to Jewish activist organizations and pro-Israeli lobbying groups while occupying influential policy-making positions in the defense and foreign policy establishment. These same people, as well as a chorus of other prominent Jews, have routine access to the most prestigious media outlets in the United States. People who criticize Israel are routinely vilified and subjected to professional abuse.270

Perhaps the most telling feature of this entire state of affairs is the surreal fact that in this entire discourse Jewish identity is not mentioned. When Charles Krauthammer, Bill Kristol, Michael Rubin, William Safire, Robert Satloff, or the legions of other prominent media figures write their reflexively pro-Israel pieces in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, or the Los Angeles Times, or opine on the Fox News Network, there is never any mention that they are Jewish Americans who have an intense ethnic interest in Israel. When Richard Perle authors a report for an Israeli think tank; is on the board of directors of an Israeli newspaper; maintains close personal ties with prominent Israelis, especially those associated with the Likud Party; has worked for an Israeli defense company; and, according to credible reports, was discovered by the FBI passing classified information to Israel—when, despite all of this, he is a central figure in the network of those pushing for wars to rearrange the entire politics of the Middle East in Israel’s favor, and with nary a soul having the courage to mention the obvious overriding Jewish loyalty apparent in Perle’s actions, that is indeed a breathtaking display of power.

One must contemplate the fact that American Jews have managed to maintain unquestioned support for Israel over the last thirty-seven years, despite Israel’s seizing land and engaging in a brutal suppression of the Palestinians in the occupied territories—an occupation that will most likely end with expulsion or complete subjugation, degradation, and apartheid. During the same period Jewish organizations in America have been a principal force—in my view the main force—for transforming America into a state dedicated to suppressing ethnic identification among Europeans, for encouraging massive multiethnic immigration into the U.S., and for erecting a legal system and cultural ideology that is obsessively sensitive to the complaints and interests of non-European ethnic minorities—the culture of the Holocaust.271 All this is done without a whisper of double standards in the aboveground media.

I have also provided a small glimpse of the incredible array of Jewish pro-Israel activist organizations, their funding, their access to the media, and their power over the political process. Taken as a whole, neoconservatism is an excellent illustration of the key traits behind the success of Jewish activism: ethnocentrism, intelligence and wealth, psychological intensity, and aggressiveness.272 Now imagine a similar level of organization, commitment, and funding directed toward changing the U.S. immigration system put into law in 1924 and 1952, or inaugurating the revolution in civil rights, or the post-1965 countercultural revolution: In the case of the immigration laws we see the same use of prominent non-Jews to attain Jewish goals, the same access to the major media, and the same ability to have a decisive influence on the political process by establishing lobbying organizations, recruiting non-Jews as important players, funneling financial and media support to political candidates who agree with their point of view, and providing effective leadership in government.273 Given this state of affairs, one can easily see how Jews, despite being a tiny minority of the U.S. population, have been able to transform the country to serve their interests. It’s a story that has been played out many times in Western history, but the possible effects now seem enormous, not only for Europeans but literally for everyone on the planet, as Israel and its hegemonic ally restructure the politics of the world.

History also suggests that anti-Jewish reactions develop as Jews increase their control over other peoples.274 As always, it will be fascinating to observe the dénouement.

Ankle-bite #2 Gold, Slider and the CrimsonGhost challenge:

As I say, Slider, to tattoo Crimson Ghost because of an argument that he did not make seems a bit odd, also a bit unfair, also, while I am at it, a bit unwise. He obviously is sympathetic.

A hint of advice: you don’t build coalitions by dumping on people who are on your side, and who are giving you support.

Just for the record, I too am sympathetic to what you have been saying of late. I totally agree that we are in an era in which the Political is going to be Primary. I totally agree that we are in dangerous times. I totally agree that what we end up with – in the way of assets and wealth -- is going to be what we are able to keep out of the hands of political goons. My personal opinion is that very likely we are approaching a moment when we go into a crisis with the one set of rules and come out of the crisis with a new set of rules. A new set of rules means new winners and, probably, some very serious, big time losers.

Is gold the answer?

I have been working on a piece, an essay, in which I am trying to get fixed in my own mind exactly what it is that I think about gold in particular, and about investing in general. Given the realities of the present age (i.e. the Primacy of the Political), where should I put my money?

Although not finished, I do have a draft. Some considerable amount of work is still needed, but it is far enough along to let me see where I am going to end up. To do the uncouth thing, and quote myself, here is some of what I am saying.

The form I have used is a series of questions and answers. I’ll pick up the story where I begin to think about what to invest in:

Q: Well, okay, but you still haven’t answered my question: what do I buy tomorrow?
A: Don’t think in terms of buying this or that asset. Rather, instead 1) accept that the price of assets is going to be heavily influenced by the actions of government -- which now means: “insiders,” “crony capitalists,” “inside the beltway types,” “K Street entrepreneurs.” You are not going to be able to see and trace with any degree of confidence the influences that affect the price of assets. As a result you are not going to know where the asset fits into the larger scheme of things, and therefore, what would be a reasonable price to pay for it. 2) Accept that wealth vulnerable to insiders IS NOT WEALTH but the illusion of wealth. In practice, wealth that cannot be protected should be thought of as an asset held in reserve by an insider until HE needs it. 3) Understand that your best interest is to link yourself with other human beings. This is going to be hard to do. Any link that you forge -- should it become strong enough to give you some real protection -- is going to set off a response among insiders that starts with nervousness, that rises to intimidation, that becomes aggressive, and that could very well end with murder. 4) Understand that economic paradigms -- even those of the Austrian School -- verge on irrelevance. Most of what we need to know about economics, as economics, that is to say, economics qua economics, is easily learned. On the other hand, what we need to know about political economy is vast, is important, requires accurate discernment not just of others but especially of ourselves.

Q: I still don’t know what to buy?
A: The general rule is that you buy what strengthens the fabric of the human networks in which you live.

Q: You are talking about personal networks -- family, friends, co-workers, neighbors ...?
A: Yes, exactly.

Q: What about traditional assets like gold? Should I buy some?
A: There is a place for gold. It is money.

Q: Are you a gold bug?
A: Meaning?

Q: Do you look to gold as a shield to protect you from the depredations and the stupidity of the goons now in charge of the entity in Washington.
A: I am, by that definition, a cautious gold bug.

Q: How so?
A: I like gold because of its history and simplicity. It is a cliché to say it but gold is an asset that is not a liability for somebody else.

Q: Gold’s price can be manipulated.
A: Rest assured, everything can be manipulated, including the price of gold.

Q: Are you comfortable with the possibility that it might be manipulated?
A: Who can be comfortable with manipulation, but, that said, it does not bother me inordinately that gold might be manipulated.

Q: Why?
A: All schemes involving manipulation break down sooner or later. In the meantime, in the case of gold, even if manipulated by insiders, the manipulations have to be simple because gold itself is simple.

Q: How so?
A: Either gold is in the vault at Fort Knox, owned by the current entity in Washington, or not. Either gold is leased out or it is not. If leased out, either it can be paid back only by the return of physical gold, or not. If somebody claims to selling gold but is selling paper, this can be and will be known sooner or later.

G: You take gold’s simplicity to be a good thing.
A: Yes.

Q: So, one thing I can do tomorrow morning when the markets open is buy gold?
A: Yes, provided you don’t expect too much from it.

Q: You’ll have to explain what you mean.
A: It would be a serious mistake to think that gold in and of itself affords much in the way of security or protection.

Q: What does give protection?
A: I have answered this question in many different ways. Nothing gives protection but other human beings.

Q: That’s very abstract: what should I invest in? Where should I put my money?
A: Just what you said a moment ago -- invest in your network, the fabric of relations in which you live, friends, family, neighbors.

Q: ...might not gold be able to help with networks....
A: Yes, yes, of course it might, which is why I am a humble gold bug. I say that we should get some or even a lot of gold if possible. But I immediately add that we should not lose sight of a fundamental truth.

Q: Which is?
A: Gold is not security. OTHER PEOPLE ARE. If gold turns you aside from the difficulty, the disappointment, the disgust, the anxiety, the anger, the fear, the pain, the numbing degree of patience that it takes to live in a moral order with other human beings, then gold is for you a deadly trap.

Q: I’ll have to think about that.
A: Do. And keep in mind that dealing with gold is ever so much easier than dealing with other human beings.

RE:Patton. Just curious Slider which branch did you serve in? In full disclosure I was not in the service.
Thanks,
Tom

PS:If any cares there is an excellent book I read called Islands of Silence about a WWI soldier who had shell shock and spent the remainder of his life in an asylum.

<Booth (Industry of Souls; Hiroshima Joe; etc.) offers a dreamy allegory of lost innocence in this novel about a young British archeologist who loses a chance at love when he's forced to serve in WWI. Alec Marquand is an old man, lying dying in a hospital; he barely moves and has not spoken a word in years, but his vivid memories are full of passion, intrigue and confrontation. He begins his career mapping Stone Age "brochs" on a remote Scottish island. There, he encounters a beautiful, otherworldly young woman, part mystical vision, part flesh and blood. Marquand is entranced by her innocence-she seems oddly brazen and unashamed of her nakedness. Though she doesn't speak and he knows nothing about her, they develop a sort of rapport, and she allows him to sketch her. Their unorthodox relationship is interrupted by his stepfather, a former colonel, who offers the young man a commission as the war with Germany approaches. Marquand refuses the commission, and the colonel has him imprisoned for refusing to serve. After doing time, Marquand endures a grueling tour of duty as a military medic. When he returns to the island, he catches only one more glimpse of the woman before she vanishes forever. Booth is a skilled storyteller, especially in the early chapters, when he brings Marquand's ghostly would-be lover to life. Marquand's effort to warm himself decades later with the memory of the unconsummated affair while trying to forget the horrors of war is moving as well. Not everyone will appreciate the mystical conceit, but readers who do will find this a solidly written, engaging tale.>

BTW Industry of Souls ( a gulag story) and Hiroshima Joe were both excellent IMO.
