I did the opposite of what you said - "equate education with being elite". I said it wasn't just you with "liberal wannabe elitists" who value education.

"Getting an education has nothing to do with being an elitist. It only has to do with developing ones mind.

That has been true historically but in modern times it has also become a refuge for institutionalized students who lack imagination, initiative, street savvy, and the interpersonal skills needed in productive society. Students who basically have no where else to go, often returning to live in their parent's home in their thirties. Which also helps to explain why so many are servile where higher education has become politicized.
