Mark,
Do you have the booth #'s. I was thought they had a room setup
but no booth. Anyone going to Comdex? I will be there and check
things out. List some questions you guys want answers to and I will
try to get some info and post it.

Mark, did you say you are going to Comdex?

i think if you go, forget about S3's booth. go check out Orchid, Nine, DIMD, STB, the Taiwan clone makers, the US Box makers, the Taiwan Box makers.

WHY?

because these are our (S3) CUSTOMERS. we need to do environmental scanning :
1) what are they seeing in terms of sales
2) is there pricing pressure in the market?
3) how are they going to react to the new boards from DIMD (Riva 128/S220)
4) What do they think low end will be next spring?
5) What do they think the "hot" product for Christmas will be?
6) What are their inventory levels like?
7) Will there be an inventory glut in Jan '98?
8) If S3 came out with a S220 type chip, would they buy it or build a V2100 board?
9) How is the <$1k category affecting their future plans and prospects?
10) Do they expect a good Christmas consumer sell through?
11) Are business customers buying more or less configured machines?

I think you will be able to develop a strong opinion of 1998 from these answers.

good luck
