When mentioning Britain I should have said "during the 19th century" rather than the "feudal years".

The 19th century sort of belonged to the British because of their coal assets along with their advanced navy.

Then the 20th century sort of belonged to the U.S. because of our oil assets, prodigious land and other assets and our isolation which kept us out of all sorts of trouble.

I forgot what my original point was so let's move to other topics.
